Q&A with Entrepreneur & Sunday Goods
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions cannabis industry?
The most obvious is that people involved the industry are stoners, when actually some of the most innovative and business-savvy professionals have been working to make sure this burgeoning space is well-positioned from cultural, political, environmental, and economic standpoints for years to come. With that, there is a similar misconception about who uses cannabis, which is everyone from young and old, to the sick and healthy. Our patients have an acute need and this plant is helping them in profound ways. Cannabis’ rise is directly correlated to reduction in opioid use and alcohol consumption, producing a positive effect on society.
How is your business innovating?
We believe we're the first vertically integrated cannabis brand, meaning we’re the first to successfully pair “big ag” and cannabis, which allows us to have a competitive advantage in bringing our high-quality product to the market. We’re working with world-class creative agencies to develop an in-store experience that emulates the level of hospitality found at some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the world. It goes beyond beautiful packaging - we want our customer to feel good, always. This touches everything we do; from our dispensaries to our website, where you can get products directly from us, with reduced friction.
What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome in your business?
Scaling this business is not easy. Every state has different regulations and that requires a formidable team to navigate the ever-changing laws. Ultimately, this does not matter to our consumer. We have to make sure that no matter what is happening behind the scenes on a national, state and local level, that our patients are provided the highest level of service and care possible. To execute on this vision, you need a great team and we feel we have assembled the best team to overcome any unforeseen hurdles we may be faced with.
What is your favorite aspect of working in this industry?
It’s bandied around quite a bit, but this truly feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We love working with our team to deliver on the promise of this plant. It’s rare to find an opportunity that has the potential to have a global impact. Additionally, being a driver of high quality job growth is one of our favorite aspects about working in cannabis.
What inspires you?
We started in this industry more than a decade ago. We’ve seen quite the evolution in such a short period of time. We're inspired to be building a company that can have a global impact. That used to feel a ways off; now it feels like it is just around the corner.
